3S Foundation  Tackles Substance Abuse at Al-Maktoum Senior High School

Tamale, Ghana – The Triple S Foundation had a successful educational outreach program on substance abuse at Al-Maktoum Senior High School in Tamale. The initiative saw students and teachers engaged in comprehensive discussions aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, identifying predisposing factors, understanding its devastating effects, and recognizing potential complications.

The program, which received positive feedback from both teachers and students, went beyond simply outlining the risks. The Triple S Foundation utilized the engagement as a crucial platform to empower students to become active #advocates against substance abuse within their school and communities.

"We believe that education is the first step towards prevention," stated by Salifu Salamatu from the Triple S Foundation. "By equipping these young minds with knowledge about the causes and consequences of substance abuse, we are not only protecting them but also enabling them to become powerful voices for change."

Discussions during the engagement covered a wide range of topics, including peer pressure, societal influences, and mental health issues as predisposing factors to substance abuse. The severe health, social, and academic complications associated with substance use were also highlighted, providing students with a clear understanding of the risks involved.

Students were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions, fostering an open and interactive environment. The Foundation emphasized the importance of making informed choices and seeking help when needed.

Teachers at Al-Maktoum Senior High School expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention. "This program is vital for our students," The senior House master added "Substance abuse is a growing concern, and having the Triple S Foundation come in to provide such detailed and engaging education is invaluable. We are particularly pleased with the call for students to become advocates, as peer influence can be very powerful."

The Triple S Foundation's initiative at Al-Maktoum Senior High School is part of its ongoing commitment to promoting health and well-being among young people in Ghana. The organization plans to continue its outreach efforts, aiming to create a generation that is well-informed and resilient against the challenges of substance abuse.
